ZZEND · text decoder

Why are his texts so dry?

"yeah" — "lol" — "ok". You write 4 lines and get back 4 characters.

Short replies mean at least 3 different things, and they need 3 different responses.

1. That is how they text

Some people treat messaging as logistics. It carries no warmth for them in either direction, and none is missing.

The tell: they were like this when things were good, and they are a different person on the phone or in a room.

2. They are answering with a thumb

The tell: short but fast, and they come back later with more.

3. They are stepping back

The tell: it is new, and it is not the only new thing. Slower, fewer questions back, plans that stop getting made.

What not to do

Do not match their length to make a point. Going short back is scorekeeping, and it reads as exactly what it is.

Do not ask "are you mad at me" over 1 short reply. Over a 2-week pattern, ask directly and in person.

What to send

Ask something that cannot be answered with "yeah". A lot of dry replies are accurate answers to closed questions.

What ZZEND does with this

It reads their last 30 days rather than their last message, which is the only way to tell 1 from 3.

Then it writes something they can actually answer.
