His replies got shorter. What changed?

"yeah sounds good." 2 weeks ago the same yes was 3 lines long.

1 short reply is a mood. 2 weeks of it is a change. And noticing it does not mean you are reading into it.

Short by nature is not the same as short all of a sudden

Some people have always texted in 3 words. That is a dry texter, and nothing is missing, because it was never there.

This page is about the other case: he used to write more, to you, and now he does not. Same person, less in the messages. That is a change, and a change is worth reading.

"You're reading into it" is about a stranger

Most people will tell you short replies mean nothing. For a stranger, that is fair. You cannot know what is normal for someone you have never texted.

But you are not reading a stranger. You have weeks of him in your thread, and that is the only thing that answers this.

The 1 thing that decides it: put him next to himself

Find the same kind of message from before and from now. Same question, same kind of plan.

Same yes. Half the words. Then ask 2 things. Is it 1 reply, or a run of them? And is it only the length, or are the questions back, the jokes, and the plans he starts also gone?

If it is only the length, it is often his week. If the warmth left with the words, is he losing interest goes through the other changes to check.

What changes the read

What he says is going on. "yeah just tired" is an answer. Look at whether it fits him. Maybe before, he went quiet when work piled up and came back on his own. Then this looks like tired, not drifting.

What you asked. "friday still good?" can only really be answered with yes. Some short replies are just full answers to small questions.

What to send back

Do not ask why his texts are so short. And do not send "you'd tell me right." It asks him to promise something while he is tired, and he will just say yeah again.

Give him an easy way to say more than yes. Something like: long week? we can push ramen if you're wiped, no big deal

That takes the pressure off the plan and makes room for a real answer. If he takes the out and moves the day, that is tired. If he says "yeah sounds good" again, you learned something too, without a hard talk.

When sending nothing today is the better move

If you already asked "everything ok?" and got "yeah just tired," that is today's answer. A 2nd check-in on the same day turns tired into a talk he did not ask for.

If the short replies have run for weeks and more is missing, the talk that helps is out loud, not another text. Sending nothing today is a normal, good result.

What ZZEND does with this

You paste the conversation and it reads his replies against him rather than against a list: how he used to answer you, what has been changing lately, and whether short is his normal or a change.

Then it writes the reply back in 4 tones, and tells you if the better move today is to wait instead of sending anything.
