Orbiting is when someone stops talking to you but keeps circling your posts: watching every story, liking things, staying visible, and answering nothing you send. The word describes the behaviour and not the reason for it, and naming it does not change what it is worth — which is less than it feels like at 11pm.
If you are here to work out whether he is doing it, the test is 1 line long: a story view costs him nothing — no decision, no words, no risk — and a reply costs all 3. That gap is the entire reason the 2 things do not line up.
Free to try, no sign-up. We never store their messages.
yeah we should do something soon
free thursday if you are?

The last words in this thread are 6 weeks old. The viewer list is from this afternoon.
Written out like that, the asymmetry is the whole story. He has been present every day and absent from the only place where presence costs anything. That is not a contradiction he is performing at you; it is just what the 2 different prices produce.
You are not blocked and you are not forgotten. That is the full contents of the signal, and it is smaller than the amount of thinking it gets.
It does not tell you he is about to reach out, and it does not tell you he wants you to. Watching is a thing people do while deciding nothing.
4 words for 4 different distances, and they get used interchangeably in a way that makes them useless. The difference is where the contact happens.
Orbiting is the only 1 of the 4 where he has said nothing to you at all. That matters, because it means there is no message of his to read — and the last real thing he said is still where the answer lives.
Usually 1 of 3 ordinary reasons. Habit, because your name is in the same place it has always been. Keeping a door open without having the conversation that opening it properly would require. Or avoidance of a specific message he knows he owes you.
None of those are readable from the viewer list. They are readable from what he last said, and from what he did the last time something needed saying.
Ask in words. If you want contact, the story is not where it happens. 1 short message about something real beats 6 more weeks of being watched.
Do not narrate the viewer list. I see you watching my stories puts him in a position where the only comfortable answer is to stop watching.
Or leave it. Nothing is a legitimate answer here, and it is the one most people pick once they have counted how many weeks this has run.
that place you said was overrated now has a 2-hour queue. thought you'd enjoy that.
Specific, and nothing to answer. If the watching was a door left ajar, this is the cheapest way through it. If it was not, you have spent nothing and asked for nothing.
are we still doing thursday at some point, or has that died?
The direct one. It names the thing he left open and gives him a clean way to say no. Use it when you would rather have an answer than a maybe, which after 6 weeks is usually the case.
(nothing)
When you already sent one. A second message into an unanswered first does not get a different result, and it changes what the first one meant. The watching will carry on either way.
Not in the minutes after he watches something. A message that lands 3 minutes after a story view is a message about the viewer list, and he will read it as one whatever it says.
Send it on an ordinary morning, disconnected from anything you posted. That is the version that reads as you thinking of him rather than as you watching him watch you.
He keeps watching and does not reply. Then the watching was never about the thread, and you now know that for certain instead of suspecting it. That is worth something, even though it is not what you wanted.
He replies once and stops. Common. Let it be short. The message you send to keep a fading exchange alive is almost always the one you would take back.
What to do with your own evenings. Muting his stories, or removing him from your close friends list, is a decision about your week rather than a message to him. Treating it as a message is where it goes wrong — he will most likely not notice, and that has to be alright for it to work.
ZZEND works on the thread rather than the viewer list — what was last actually said between you, and what is still open in it. Story views are not evidence and it does not treat them as any.
If there is a message worth sending, it drafts it in your register and calls the timing. If the honest answer is that there is nothing to send yet, it says that instead.

Most often because watching costs him nothing and answering would mean explaining the silence. It is closer to avoidance than to a plan, and it is not a sign he is about to come back.
It cannot tell you that. A view means you are not blocked and not forgotten, and that is all it means. What he did the last time you asked him something direct tells you far more.
The same behaviour inside something that already existed: he has gone quiet with you directly while still watching everything you post. In a relationship it usually points at a conversation he is postponing rather than at a decision he has made.
Because checking your stories keeps him informed without reopening anything. It is worth reading as curiosity, not as a signal about getting back together, and it says nothing about what he would do if you actually messaged him.
No. Breadcrumbing happens inside the messages, where he keeps sending just enough to hold your attention. Orbiting happens outside them, where he sends nothing at all and stays visible in your feed instead.
Only if watching it is costing you your evenings. Blocking is a decision about your own week, not a message to him, and treating it as a message is where it usually goes wrong.
